THE METAL DOUGHNUT BAND
Busking In Leicester!!!!!!!
Different is the only way I can attempt to describe this event. The
Metal Doughnut Band busking? Well, as you can imagine it was a little
impractical to walk round Liecester naked, so clothes were worn by all.
The band assembled in St. Martins Square at 12.30 pm and after getting
some power for the bass amp, the show commenced. 'Heartbeat' was first
up, as the song progessed, the orgasmic feel to it approaching climax,
the crowds began to gather round... then straight into ‘Glamorous
Nights'. The metal sounded well co-ordinated as the five [six] young men
pounded at it with what looked like broom handles! [they were] ‘You may
earn money' shouted one of the bashers. An instra-mental followed which
stopped and started round an incredibly catchy bass line onto which
squealing sax vas woven. ‘Laure Norder', the other sideto the single was
next with the consent of the caretaker of the shopping precint... he'd
allowed the band just one more fling…it ended soon after the fascist
turned off the power.
It was then off to the Phoenix Arts to
play the car park. Seeing as it was Super 8 Film Festival week and the
film of 'Out Damned Spot' had been shown there a couple of days
previous, the Doughnuts expected an enthusiastic response. It was not to
be, pissed off with the total apathetical reaction of the festival
goers, the Doughnuts packed up after just four songs, one of which was a
desperate attempt to generate some sort of response...a version of Yeah
Yeah Noh’s 'Cottage Industry'! The Doughnuts are an experience, the Phoenix Arts so-called arty types are nothing but conservatives in dayglo trousers…
Local fanzine - 'BIG PENiS"?
Diary notes: "Played Heartbeat, Concord's Bum, Glamorous Nights, etc. New version of Imminent at the Phoenix Arts."

Thanks to John II Doughnut who I believe did the MySpace account (which no longer functions) from which I downloaded the photos and review above.
